Get to know: Cody Oshel, Republican Primary Candidate for U.S. Representative District 6
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Cody Oshel is a father, husband, pastor and financial representative, and is also hopeful for the U.S. Representative District 6 seat representing Missouri.
With these multiple positions already helping individuals grow in business and faith, he hopes to use those skills on a bigger scale in this opportunity.
"I feel like that's the only way that we can have representation in DC is to have those stories lifted up versus like DC coming here and saying this is what you're supposed to believe, that this is how it's gonna be," Oshel said. "It feels incredibly important to be able to raise those voices up, um, so people can feel seen and heard."
If elected, Oshel's main issues are an agriculture-first initiative for Missouri, improved rural health access, and a national defense fund to keep America ready for anything.
"(Rural assistance) goes back to the agriculture pieces, but like really understanding them and it's not just talking points, it's like it's a reality that I know the reality because I live the reality that they do," Oshel shared. "My family has experienced that for generations, and they're, you know, nurses, attorneys, small business owners across the district, so it's not just DC talking points; it's like that I, I really wanna represent them."
During his time as a pastor working with multiple churches, he is ready to organize, listen to the needs of those he serves and ensure that multiple facets of governance are prepared to serve the people.
"I have a strong understanding of the way people in North Missouri live and the issues that hit them at their dinner table, um, that's what I've heard from a lot of folks, um, so going from being a pastor where I was with people through the best and worst times of their lives helping to solve problems, um, the bishop would actually appoint me to churches to be able to go be the fix-it pastor," he said.
Oshel is a Republican primary option on the Aug. 4 ballot for Missouri's 6th U.S. Congressional District. He will face Chris Stigall, Nathan Willet, Jim Ingram and Nathanael Schultz.
