Tracking a hot and mostly sunny Friday

Good morning and happy Friday!

We're wrapping up the workweek with another warm and humid start across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Temperatures are beginning the day in the low to middle 70s, while southwest winds are a bit breezier than the past few mornings, with gusts between 10 and 15 mph.

Clouds are clearing this morning after showers remained south of the area overnight. Most locations stayed dry, and sunshine will quickly return through the morning.

High temperatures will climb into the low 90s this afternoon, with humidity continuing to increase. By lunchtime, temperatures will already be in the upper 80s, and heat index values will climb into the upper 90s by late afternoon, making it feel even hotter.

A very isolated shower or sprinkle cannot be ruled out late this evening, but rain chances remain around 10%, and most locations will stay dry. Any showers that do develop will be brief and similar to what we saw Thursday, with the better chances remaining south of the Interstate 70 corridor.

The bigger story is the heat. Temperatures will continue climbing into the middle and upper 90s this weekend, while heat index values are expected to reach the triple digits Saturday through Monday.

If you'll be spending time outdoors this weekend, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.

Expect a high near 92 degrees today, with sunshine, increasing humidity and a hot weekend ahead.
