Tracking a warm Tuesday with morning spotty showers

Good morning and Happy Tuesday!

A cold front is moving through northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas this morning, bringing a welcome change to the weather pattern. A few scattered showers and isolated rumbles of thunder are developing along the front, mainly near the Missouri-Iowa border and across north-central Missouri. Most locations around St. Joseph have remained dry, with only a few sprinkles possible early this morning.

Behind the front, winds have shifted to the north, ushering in a cooler and less humid air mass. While temperatures are still starting the day in the upper 70s around St. Joseph, communities farther north have already cooled significantly as the front continues to push south.

Any lingering morning showers will move out quickly, leaving behind a mix of sunshine and clouds for the afternoon. Despite the front, highs will still reach around 89 degrees today before noticeably cooler air settles in tonight.

Another change arriving today is wildfire smoke from Canada, which will create hazy skies through the afternoon and evening. The haze may lead to especially colorful sunrises and sunsets, although some people sensitive to smoke may notice a slight decline in air quality.

The cooler weather becomes more noticeable Wednesday, with highs dropping into the lower 80s, followed by upper 70s to lower 80s Thursday and Friday. Additional chances for showers return late this week, bringing the potential for some much-needed rainfall.
