ACTION ALERT DAY MONDAY: Tracking dangerously hot conditions

Good morning and happy Monday!

Today is a KQ2 Storm Tracker Action Day due to dangerous heat expected across the area.

As you head out the door this morning, temperatures are already in the 80s, with heat index values in the 90s. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday.

This afternoon, temperatures are expected to climb to around 99 degrees, with heat index values reaching 115 degrees or higher. It will be dangerously hot, so be sure to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water, check on loved ones, take frequent breaks indoors, and avoid spending extended time outside if possible.

Thankfully, a cold front will move through later today. While a few sprinkles or isolated showers are possible today and Tuesday, many of us will stay dry.

Behind the front, conditions will gradually improve. Heat index values will fall back into the 90s on Tuesday, with afternoon highs in the lower 90s. Temperatures become much more comfortable for the rest of the workweek, with highs settling into the middle and upper 80s. There will also be a few chances for scattered showers from the middle to the end of the week.
