Tracking a gloomy Thursday with rain chances

Good morning and happy Thursday!

As you're heading out the door this morning, temperatures are a bit cooler than yesterday, with readings in the low to middle 70s. It's also a little breezier, with southeast winds helping keep things comfortable to start the day.

We're tracking a few isolated showers this morning, similar to what we saw yesterday. Spotty rain will move through northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri through the morning and around lunchtime, but most of us won't see widespread rainfall.

Our better chance for rain arrives late tonight into early Friday morning as a cold front moves in from the northwest. Expect periods of heavy rain, a few rumbles of thunder, and occasional lightning. The system will move through quickly and should be out of the area by the Friday morning commute.

Behind the front, much cooler and drier air settles in. Highs will fall into the low to middle 80s through the weekend, with lower humidity and plenty of sunshine. It should make for a beautiful and much more comfortable start to August.
