Good Dads St. Joseph screening documentary and discussion on male mental health

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- In 2024, the suicide rate among males was nearly four times higher than the rate among females.

The aforementioned statistic, and some similar ones, inspired the documentary "Gone Guys," which will have a special screening at the East Hills Library on Thursday, Aug. 6.

The event is hosted by the organization Good Dads St. Joseph, which supports fathers and families by giving them the best tools possible to be great parents. One large strong point in the mission for their leader, Tim Doyle, is the stigma around men's mental health.

That's what inspired him to host a screening of a 45-minute documentary that the event page said illuminates these challenges through powerful data and compelling personal stories.

"For every accidental construction death, there are five suicide deaths of men in construction. So it's just it's a it's an epidemic, and it is a mental health issue," said Doyle. "You don't like to use that word because, again, it brings a stigma. But the pressure, the stress, the struggle that comes with that."

The screening begins at 6:00 pm at East Hills Library, located at 502 North Woodbine Road in St. Joseph. After the screening, there will be an informative panel to discuss the movie and thoughts around the issue.
