Central hires new boys basketball coach

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Central High School boys basketball team has a new head coach.

In an announcement on the school's Facebook page Monday night, Central has hired Ricky Barbosa to be the next head coach.

Barbosa has head coaching experience. He led the Catholic High School (Virginia Beach, Va.) program from 2016 to 2020. The program played in two TCIS Championship games in three seasons. Barbosa's team won the 2019 tournament — the school's first conference tournament title in 24 years. During his tenure, more than 20 players went on to play college basketball.

The 2009 Virginia Wesleyan College graduate has also spent a lot of time in the AAU and shoe circuit programs including Boo Williams (Nike) and Team Loaded 757 (Adidas).

Barbosa takes over the program from Jacob Kimble, who took over the Platte County girls basketball program this spring.
