Chiefs Training Camp 2nd day of pads: Kenneth Walker and Khyiris Tonga go from Super Bowl foes to KC teammates

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs held their second full padded training camp practice Tuesday morning on MoWest's campus in Saint Joseph. A lot of familiar Chiefs alumni players were in attendance as well.

Former KC greats like Honey Badger Tyrann Mathieu, quarterback Trent Green, and receiver Dwayne Bowe were all in attendance at training camp in Saint Joseph on Tuesday. Watching Patrick Mahomes spiral passes downfield, Chiefs pass game coordinator Joe Bleymaier has fulfilled much of the offensive coordinator duties with Eric Bieniemy still in Virginia supporting his injured wife. Bleymaier says everyone on the Chiefs coaching staff has stepped up their game.

"We miss EB, obviously. But in the meantime, Coach (Andy) Heck has taken on more roles with the run game and the offensive line, all the position coaches have stepped up," said Bleymaier. "There's just a little bit more administrative stuff to handle, but we've been doing this a long time. We all kind of know what's expected, and we've just been rolling from there."

Bleymaier said Bieniemy has been reaching out more and more to the team about football things lately, bringing a little sense of normalcy back to the team.

Defensive tackle Khyris Tonga played in the Super Bowl for the New England Patriots last season. His Pats would lose to Kenneth Walker III and the Seattle Seahawks. Funny enough, Tonga and Walker are teammates in Kansas City now, and they're grateful that they're finally on the same side.

"When we finally met, we were talking about the Super Bowl and the plays and each team," said Walker. "But it's great to have him on the team and I'm ready to be able to ball on his side."

"Every time we watch these like videos of him, it's always in the Super Bowl and just I have to look away sometimes," said Tonga. "But no, I'm so glad we're on the same side now. In practice he definitely makes us work on the defensive side, just being honest and in everything that we do. So having someone like K9 on our squad, man, it's so fun."
