Chiefs fans travel from near and far for training camp in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Chiefs Training Camp brings thousands of fans to St. Joseph each year.

While many fans are from Missouri, others are traveling from across the country for a chance to see their favorite team up close.

For one fan, the trip to St. Joseph was about more than just watching the Chiefs. He traveled three hours from Columbia with his flag football team to attend camp for the second year in a row.

"We're big fans, just love, our whole team loves the Chiefs," said Fadraon Anderson.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is more than just a star on the field; he has been a major inspiration for Anderson.

"I'd love to throw the ball to Mahomes. I feel like me and him connect in so many ways; his throwing is where I get my throwing from," Anderson said.

Other fans are making the trip up I-29 to experience Chiefs Training Camp for the first time.

"We're here to enjoy everything that it has for us," Jeremy Lee said.

Lee is originally from Louisiana, and he says he’s especially excited to see a fellow Louisiana native on the field.

"I am excited to see L'Jarius Sneed; he (is) about 15 to 20 minutes away from my hometown, so I’m excited to see him," Lee said.

For the last four years, Chiefs Training Camp has become an annual tradition for two fans from Nebraska.

"We’re Chiefs fans; we also come and support our players," Jennifer Payton said.

Payton says she’s especially excited to see one of the Chiefs’ rookies from Nebraska.

"Emmett, rookie player, so we’re rooting for him, you know, to make big plays this year," Payton said.

Shaniya black names a number of players she’s looking forward to seeing on the field

"Number 10, number 4, Patrick Mahomes and some of the other players," Black said.

No matter where they’re coming from, one thing is clear: Chiefs Kingdom spreads far and wide.
