Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy gives update on wife’s recovery, being back with the team

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator has now been back with the team for eight days and after Tuesday's practice, he spoke to the media for the first time since he rejoined the Chiefs.

Bieniemy missed two weeks of training camp after his wife, Mia, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound. Bieniemy gave an update on how she is doing and why he is back with the team.

"She is on the road to recovery," said Bieniemy. "She is doing great and it's one of the main reasons why I'm back here. She's truly a soldier. She's a saint and it's been incredible to watch."

Bieniemy gave credit to Mia for him being back and that she gave him her blessing to come back to the team.

"I know I was driving her and a bunch of family members crazy in the house," said Bieniemy. "She was like, 'You have my blessing to leave,' so it was time to get back."

Bieniemy thanked the Hunt and Chiefs family for their support and for being behind him through the entire situation. He also felt the support from the players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

"It means a lot," said Bieniemy. "You develop these relationships and bonds, and like I said, we become a member of each other's family. It means a lot to not only have great players, but more importantly, great people."
