Bieniemy ‘happy to be back and ready to grow’ with the Chiefs

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Eric Bieniemy has made his return to the Chiefs and said he's excited to be back.

Bieniemy spoke to reporters for the first time on Tuesday and sees this time in training camp as a chance to continue to get better.

"It feels good to be back with the guys," said Bieniemy. "Now we can all grow and get to learning each other. Obviously, we got a lot of new faces and we want to continue the developmental process."

While he was away, Bieniemy was still making an impact on the team. Chiefs running back Brashard Smith spoke on why that was important for the players.

"We're just sitting in the meeting room and we just hear EB (Eric Bieniemy) come out of nowhere," said Smith. "I feel like we needed that and I feel like it worked out for us real well."

While the team only has a couple days left in St. Joseph, they still have a few weeks left of practices before the season starts on Sept. 14. Bieniemy said he sees this time as a chance to get prepared for the season ahead.

"We're not where we need to be right now, but these practices we've had the past few days, the guys have stepped up," said Bieniemy. "They've accepted the challenge and they understand what needs to be accomplished. We will continue to grow from here on out."

The Chiefs will have their final practice in St. Joseph on Thursday, Aug. 20, before their second preseason game. That game will be in Tampa Bay, Florida, against the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be aired on KQTV.
