Tracking Thursday morning fog and a warming trend

Dense fog is impacting the morning commute across parts of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas Thursday morning, with visibility dropping below one-half mile in some locations.

A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Thursday. Drivers should plan ahead, allow extra time and slow down as visibility remains reduced. Fog is expected to gradually lift within a few hours after sunrise.

Once the fog clears, conditions will improve quickly. High pressure will take control, bringing mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. Afternoon highs will climb into the middle 80s, making for a pleasant day to spend time outdoors.

The next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Friday night into early Saturday morning. While a few storms could develop Friday afternoon, the better chance for rain and thunderstorms comes overnight. Some storms could become strong to severe, with strong winds and large hail among the potential threats.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible Sunday night into Monday morning, although the severe weather threat appears much lower at this time due to limited instability.

Overall, temperatures will remain near seasonal levels through the weekend, with highs generally in the middle to upper 80s and overnight lows in the middle to upper 60s. Warmer and more humid conditions return early next week as additional storm chances move into the region.
