Elanco expands Elwood manufacturing facility with $130M investment

ELWOOD, Kan (KQTV) -- Elanco Animal Health hosted a ribbon-cutting for the completion of a major expansion and renovation at its Elwood, Kansas manufacturing facility.

The expansion added 25,000 square feet to the facility. Key features of the Elanco expansion will include state-of-the-art upstream and downstream processing equipment, a new pilot plant and an Advanced Quality Control Lab.

The expansion will allow Elanco to expand its manufacturing capacity for it portfolio of products that are monoclonal antibodies.

"They are very targeted treatments that we use," Grace McArdle, Elanco executive vice president of manufacturing and quality, said. "To treat pets here in the U.S. for a number of conditions. It's super exciting to expand the facility, and obviously exceptionally grateful to the town here in Elwood, and the community around us for supporting us and welcoming us here."

Elanco invested $130 million in the expansion with a plan to achieve over $150 million in the total spend for the expansion.

"We expanded our manufacturing footprint, and we're now also expanding a small-scale facility, our QC operations and our storage and warehouse facility as well," McArdle said.

The expansion places Elwood at the manufacturing heart.

"It's very exciting to see how the site develops to date, and the future the site is going to have here at Elwood," McArdle said.

Elanco expansion will be able to have more supply for it's products.

"These are products that treat parvovirus, which is a fatal disease for puppies, and also to treat itchy dogs. Which anybody that lives with an itchy dog would say that is probably one of the number one biggest concerns for pet owners," McArdle said. "Really, really good solutions that our customers are in demand for."

More than 8,000 U.S. clinics are served by the Elwood-manufactured mAb products.
