St. Joseph City Council to vote on Felix Street Square renovations, additional demolition on Fourth and Felix garage

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph City Council is set to vote on repairs to the Krug Park waterfall, amend the park sales tax to fund renovations at Felix Street Square and additional demolition work at the Fourth and Felix Street garage.

The council plans to vote to approve an amendment to the parks sales tax fund budget, and approve Change Order No. 1 with E.L. Crawford Construction for the repair of the Krug Park waterfall.

The ordinance states that the Krug Park waterfall is deteriorated and is in need of repair. The project will repair the stone waterfall face, masonry stonework, landscape restoration, excavation, piping, and concrete repairs required to complete the work properly.

The repairs of the Krug Park waterfall will cost $392,217.00.

The council plans to vote to approve an ordinance for Change Order No. 2 for $14,414.59 and amend the park sales tax budget to $51,067.28 with Herner Construction for the renovation of Felix Street Square.

The ordinance states that a section of concrete behind the stage at Felix Street Square does not meet ADA requirements and needs to be removed and replaced. The new concrete will extend from the existing ornamental brick sidewalk to the stage.

The council plans to vote to approve an ordinance for Change Order No. 3 with Madget Demolition for additional demolition work at the Fourth and Felix Street garage.

The ordinance states that city staff determined that the best option is to install Jersey barriers with fencing on top to block off the old ramps leading to the removed upper level.

This will provide a protective barrier for vehicles and pedestrians. More saw cutting is needed to create space for additional parking stalls and to clean up several existing columns within the parking garage.

One additional vehicle exit ramp will also be removed to improve traffic flow when the parking
garage is reopened. The additional demolition will cost $92,452.73.

Additionally, the council will vote to cancel its Sept. 14 meeting because multiple council members and city staff will attend the annual Missouri Municipal League Conference.
