Tracking a very hot week ahead

stretch of hot weather is underway across northwest Missouri, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s Monday and continue through much of the workweek.

A Heat Advisory takes effect at noon Monday and remains in place through 7 p.m. for much of the region. High temperatures are expected to reach around 98 degrees, with heat index values between 103 and 105 degrees.

A strong area of high pressure will keep conditions hot and mostly dry through at least Wednesday. Southerly winds will gust between 20 and 25 mph Monday, helping bring warmer air into the region.

A few isolated sprinkles or showers are possible across far northern and northwestern Missouri Monday, particularly near Rock Port, Falls City, Mound City and Maryville, as a disturbance moves through the region. Most areas will remain dry, however.

Temperatures will remain in the upper 90s Tuesday and Wednesday, with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s offering little relief from the heat. The Heat Advisory could be extended into Thursday if hot conditions continue.

Limited shower and thunderstorm chances return to northern Missouri late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Overall, above-average temperatures are expected to persist through the remainder of the week and into the weekend.

Residents spending time outdoors should stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and avoid prolonged exposure to the afternoon heat.
