Griffons quarterback earns MIAA Player of the Week honors

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- In his first game leading the Griffons, a junior quarterback took home a conference honor for his Week 0 performance.

Missouri Western State University quarterback Isaiah Tate has been named the MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week following his record-setting Griffon debut.

Tate completed 18-of-29 passes for 420 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 26 yards and another score.

The junior transfer quarterback's four passing touchdowns tied the MoWest single-game record, and his five total touchdowns tied the program's single-game record. Tate's 420 passing yards are second-most in school history for a single game. The junior's 446 total yards ranked fourth in program history.

MoWest lost to No. 20 Augustana (S.D.), 63-58, in Week 0. The Griffons head to Warrensburg for a game against Central Missouri at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
