Tracking continuing dangerous heat & sunshine

Good morning, and happy Thursday.

As you’re heading out the door this morning, temperatures are back into the upper 70s, and it’s going to be another hot and toasty day. Temperatures will climb quickly, reaching the upper 90s this afternoon, with heat index values into the triple digits.

A heat advisory remains in effect today through Friday and now into Saturday evening. During this stretch, temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 90s, with heat index values near 100 to 105 degrees.

We’ll cool down a few degrees Sunday and Monday, but even into early next week, temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s. It’s not until closer to Wednesday and Thursday of next week that we start to see some better temperatures.

Rain chances also remain very limited and low. With the combination of continued heat and limited rainfall, the increasing risk of drought is something we’ll continue to watch closely.
