Tracking intense heat and tons of sunshine

An early September heat wave will continue to bake Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas with intense heat, lots of sunshine, and a touch of humidity through the holiday weekend. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s each day, with heat index values peaking near 105 degrees. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for all Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sep. 8.

Overnight lows will fall into the mid to upper 70s for the next several nights with mostly clear skies. Sunshine prevails for the next 5 to 7 days with no appreciable rain chances as a blocking ridge of high pressure remains anchored in place.
