#6 Northwest Missouri State football dominates Missouri Southern for 31st straight win over Lions

MARYVILLE, Mo. (KQTV) - The #6 Northwest Missouri State football team wore all black uniforms on Saturday and that certainly fit the part. The "bad-guy" Bearcats dominated Missouri Southern, 65-3 for the 31st straight victory over the school.

The ground attack once again shined in the Bearcats' offense as the team finished with 5 rushing touchdowns. Freshman running back Jaron Cannon Jr. led the way with 67 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. Junior Te'Shaun Porter had 50 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown and sophomore Quincy Torry had 42 yards rushing on 9 carries and a touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Zechariah Owens added 2 rushing scores as well as tossing for 2 more touchdowns. Owens finished 9-of-13 for 131 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Mason Shorb was 7-of-9 through the air for 145 yards passing and 2 touchdowns.

Senior Erwin Nash, sophomore Cooper Warren, sophomore and Maryville High School alum Delton Davis and junior Te'Shaun Porter all caught touchdowns for the Bearcats on Saturday.

"We sped it up today, played a little more tempo. I felt like we're just stuck in second gear a little bit and so we wanted to kind of free our offense up and maybe think a little bit less," said head coach John McMenamin. I thought our guys really embraced it, had a great week of practice, and it came out and showed today."

The Northwest Missouri State defense racked up 5 sacks, forced 3 turnovers and held Southern to just 135 yards of total offense.

Northwest Missouri State improves to 3-0 on the season and now hits the road to play former head coach Adam Dorrel and Central Oklahoma in Edmund, Oklahoma on Saturday, September 26th at 7 pm.
