Tracking Wednesday rain & flooding concerns

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas through Thursday night, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding.

Rain is already moving through the area early Wednesday, creating wet roadways for the morning commute. Additional showers and storms are expected through the day as moisture continues to stream into the region.

A Flood Watch remains in effect through late Thursday night. Widespread rainfall totals of 2 inches or more are possible, with some locations potentially receiving 4 inches or more.

The heaviest rainfall is expected along and north of the Highway 36 corridor, where 2 to 4 inches or more could fall through Thursday. Areas farther south could receive 1 to 3 inches.

Repeated rounds of rain could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas.

Rain chances continue Wednesday night and Thursday as a cold front slowly moves through. Temperatures will turn cooler Thursday, with highs in the upper 60s to upper 70s.

Rain moves out Thursday night into Friday, with drier and cooler weather returning for the weekend.

Residents should continue to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared for possible Flood Warnings. Never drive through a flooded roadway.
