Tracking a stormy start to the work week

Mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of showers Sunday afternoon will give way to rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity to start the work week, as a strong low pressure system tracks across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas on Monday. A few storms may contain gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall Monday and into Monday night. Between rainy periods clouds will prevail Monday with afternoon highs in the low 70s and steady southerly winds at 15 to 25 mph, occasionally gusting over 35 mph. Rain chances linger into Tuesday as the system slowly exits the region, with a gradual drying trend and cooler temperatures to follow. A mainly dry and more seasonable early November pattern sets up for the middle and second half of the week, with highs in the low to mid 60s and lows near 40 degrees through next weekend.
