FILE

ATCHISON COUNTY, Kan. (KQTV) -- 45-year-old Chad Starling of Atchison, Kansas, died on Saturday, October 31, after attempting to avoid hitting another vehicle near Kearney Street in Atchison.

Just after 10:30 am, 50-year-old Johnnie Ross of Atchison was driving an SUV eastbound on 1146 Kearney Street. He then failed to stop at a stop sign near 12th Street when a car driven by 45-year-old Chad Starling attempted to avoid the vehicle.

The two vehicles did not collide; however, Starling lost control of the car while not wearing a seatbelt and struck trash cans, then a tree. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Ross and another passenger in his vehicle were not injured.
