(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Vintage Gardens Senior Living held a Block Party to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association on June 19.

The inaugural event was a genuine community effort that they were happy to work on, according to Sales Director Lindsay Moore.

"All of our management team, all of our staff, they have helped in making this event possible," Moore shared. "The community has really come together and donating things and just making this come together all as a whole was, I mean, I'm proud of it myself, and I know my people are too."

Some activities that were available to the community included a silent auction, bake sale, DJ, food truck, and dunk tank.

The event marked the center's celebration of "The Longest Day," usually held on the summer solstice, a day for all to come together and raise money for the fight against Alzheimer's disease. The Vintage Garden staff was on hand to assist with the event and answered questions about Alzheimer's disease or the facilities available.

One of the caretakers who who assists those with Alzheimer's at the facility, Melissa Hall, was thankful that they were able to provide a fun day that brought normalcy.

"This means a whole lot to me. I've been here since 2014, and this comes from my heart, and to make money for it, it just means a lot," said Hall. "My residents are my family, and their families entrust me with them every day. So I mean, they're my world."

"It's interesting because having been here for three plus years, anytime we have outdoor activities for the residents, it's kind of like seeing everyone go back to their childhood," said Vintage Gardens Receptionist Mickey Miller. "There's something about being outside in the fresh air that brings new life to everyone that participates."
