St. Joseph Figure Skating Club to Present “Cinderella on Ice” as Spring Show
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Figure Skating Club is currently practicing for their big show, "Cinderella on Ice," scheduled for May 1 through 3.
Since the beginning of March, dozens of young skaters from St. Joseph's Figure Skating Club have been practicing for their big performance.
Behind the scenes, props are donated and refurbished, and the skaters work together to polish their choreography on the ice.
This year's production has special meaning for some senior skaters, as it is their last show before graduation.
Organizers say that a lot of hard work goes into producing these shows, because while it may be hard to choreograph a show on solid ground, it is even harder on ice.
Klaranda Behrens, the lead director of the show, says that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes.
"Every practice, every session, teaching them the numbers. So a lot of work goes on behind the scenes, too," Behrens said. "But the skaters put in the effort. They're here every weekend, multiple times a week, putting in the hours and the dedication. So, like, four hours at a time, three or four hours. It's a lot of time for them, and it's paying off."
Behrens explained that the theme was chosen by the club's membership from several Broadway-inspired options.
"It was the mass majority for this one to be Cinderella. It was club chosen."
This year's production holds special meaning, as several graduating seniors are taking on lead roles, including Cinderella and the Prince.
Show times are as follows:
- Friday, May 1 at 6:30 P.M.
- Saturday, May 2 at 6:30 P.M.
- Sunday, May 3 at 3:30 P.M.
