Inaugural Safety Town After Dark takes place

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — The St. Joseph Safety & Health Council began a new era on Friday evening as they hosted the inaugural ‘Safety Town After Dark’.

This fundraiser was designed for community partners and potential supporters to come together for a night of food, fun, and learning about the multiple programs the council offers. The council also offered ‘grown-up’ versions of classic Safety Town activities, such as a ride through the safety village, trivia, talks by local experts on various safety practices, and more.

The turnout at Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday meant a lot to the council’s director, Frank Till, as his group tried something new.

“We had 128 people come out to help support our community programs. We’re really excited, just happy that everybody’s here,” Till said. “Well, we couldn’t ask for a better host (this is) just a wonderful place to do it. Adams Catering is providing an incredible meal, and so many other sponsors that came together to make this night possible.”

Funding from the evening not only went to scholarships for some children in the area to attend future Safety Towns free of charge, but also to other programs such as their Teen Driving Program, hosting Safety Acres, and more.
