ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — Mosaic Life Care recognized one of its own through an award and by donating to a charity of the recipient’s choosing.

Suzanne Goddard, a care manager for Serious Illness Management at Mosaic Life Care, was recognized with the highest caregiver award at Mosaic- the Servant’s Heart Award.

Goddard was nominated by fellow caregivers for her selfless actions while caring for a patient facing end-of-life challenges.

When the patient had to move into a facility that could not accommodate pets, Goddard stepped in and adopted the patient’s dog herself.

She continued to bring the dog for visits, giving the patient comfort and peace of mind during a difficult time.

“This award is about caregivers who go above and beyond for their patients,” FACHE and CEO of Mosaic, Mike Poore, said. “Suzanne’s actions show the true meaning of a servant’s heart. She didn’t just care for the patient- she cared for what mattered most to the patient. It’s incredibly humbling to work alongside caregivers like Suzanne who serve with such compassion.”

Goddard said she was surprised and deeply honored to receive the award.

“You don’t go into nursing or caregiving for recognition,” said Goddard. “But when you can do something small that makes a big difference for someone, it’s always worth it. Helping her know her dog was safe lifted a huge weight off her shoulders. It brought her peace.”

Goddard chose to make a $500 donation to the St. Joseph Friends of the Animal Shelter. She said she chose FOTAS because of the organization’s role in helping animals advocate for themselves.

“Animals don’t have a voice,” said Goddard. “The shelter does so much for the community and the animals in need. It just felt like the right place.”

Jenn Kline, the president of the board of directors for FOTAS, expressed gratitude for both the donation and the story behind it.

“We are so honored that Suzanne chose our organization,” Kline said. “Animal welfare organizations everywhere are facing overcrowding and financial challenges. Donations like this help provide medical care for sick and injured animals, support adoption efforts adn fund programs like spay and neuter services that keep pets healthy and families together.”

Kline said Goddard’s actions reflect those of anyone who works in animal welfare.

“Hearing her story truly brought tears to my eyes,” said Kline. “Caring for people during such vulnerable moments and giving them peace of mind is an incredible gift. That kindness means more than words can say.”

The donation will support medical care for animals in the shelter, adoption programs and community services that help prevent overcrowding and promote healthier communities.

Mosaic Life Care’s Servant’s Heart Award reflects the organization’s mission to serve the needs of patients and the community with passion, diginity and respect.
