Daycare owner donates three cars’ worth of toys to AFL-CIO

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Over $15,000 worth of toys were donated to the AFL-CIO Community Services center in St. Joseph.

Tammy Ruckers, owner of Cabin In The Woods Daycare, was up bright and early dropping off donations on Monday morning.

Ruckers came to the center with a Tesla, a pickup truck and a trailer filled with toys she hopes will help kids in the area during the holiday season.

"I've been going to all the Dollar Generals in the area," Ruckers said. "I went to one the other day in Dearborn, and we got 70% off, plus an additional 50% off if we bought them out. So I bought them out."

While some people may think it is way too early to purchase gifts for Christmas, Ruckers believes it is never too early to prepare for the holiday season.

"A lady behind me the other day in the store said, 'It's only February, why are you buying stuff for Christmas?'" Ruckers said. "It helps them out here because they get a jump start on it. Usually, they're short on toys, so they have to rely more on the community to donate toys."

The AFL-CIO is currently accepting donations of toys for children of all ages.
