Missouri House of Representatives unanimously pass bill to allow owners to register vehicles for five years

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KQTV) -- Missouri drivers may be able to register their vehicles for five years, instead of one or two.

The Missouri House of Representatives passed a bill Monday for drivers who own a vehicle that is less than six years old.

House Bill 2189 allows vehicle owners to register their vehicles for five years instead of the usual annual or biennial registration dates.

Owners who wish to use this option would have to pay the $45 fee plus a pro rata fee for the additional four years.

Drivers would also need to present all documentation required by law during the vehicle registration.

The bill was passed 143 votes to 0, and is now headed to the Senate to take a look at the bill in the near future.

If the bill gets passed, it will be set to take effect in 2027.
