Action Alert Day: Severe threat Friday evening

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across Northwest Missouri and parts of Northeast Kansas Friday afternoon and evening, as a low-pressure system tracks across the area. Pockets of sizable hail and damaging winds are the primary hazards, with a tornado or two possible as well, especially east of I-35 and north of Highway 36.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for all of Northwest Missouri and Doniphan County in extreme Northeast Kansas through 10 p.m. Friday

Isolated thunderstorm activity early this afternoon will become more widespread after 5 PM. As storms progress eastward, they are expected to merge into a line and track east of I-35 after sunset.

The highest chance for severe hazards exists in the enhanced risk zone outlined by the Storm Prediction Center in parts of Northwest, North Central, and Northeast Missouri as well as southern Iowa.
