Representative Brenda Shields has filed to run for an open Missouri senate seat after previously announcing she wouldn’t seek reelection

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — Less than two weeks after filing to run for a state Senate seat, a local Missouri House of Representative has withdrawn their name from the primary race.

According to the Missouri Secretary of State's website, Rep. Brenda Shields (R-District 11) has withdrawn from the race for the Missouri District 34 Senate race.

Shields removed her name from the race Wednesday afternoon.

The St. Joseph representative announced last fall that she would not seek the Senate District 34 seat because of health concerns, but re-entered the race on March 31.

KQ2 has reached out to Shields for a comment.
