ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — Despite being placed on the agenda Monday night, the St. Joseph School District Board of Education voted to remove discussion regarding a Missouri Constitution violation involving a board member.

At the start of Monday night’s board meeting and work session, board member Ronda Chesney made a motion to remove the agenda item concerning fellow board member Kim Miller’s Missouri Constitution violation from last month.

Miller voted to approve the March personnel report, which included her son. Approving the hiring of a family member is a violation of the Missouri Constitution.

Chesney said she made the motion to remove the topic from the agenda because the Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC) “is in the process of investigating.”

The board approved the change by a 5–2 vote. Board members Whitney Lanning and LaTonya Williams voted against the motion. Board member Mike Moore said he voted in favor so the process could “run its course.”

Chesney, Kerns, Miller, and Richmond cast the remaining votes in favor of removing the item. Miller did not comment on the violation during the vote.
