Holy Rosary Credit Union highlights mission to expand economic opportunity at community luncheon
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Holy Rosary Credit Union hosted a Community Outreach Luncheon on Wednesday afternoon at Room 108.
The luncheon aimed to inform the community about the company’s mission of expanding economic opportunity and building a better world.
Isaura Garcia, branch manager at Holy Rosary Credit Union said unlike typical financial institutions, they look outside of the credit report.
"We essentially look at the need for the loan," she said. "We want to know if this is to pay bills to fix a car that you take to and from work. Is this something you’re going actually need, and if so, we'll try to find a way to make it work.”
Garcia said this type of banking is important because it assists those in St. Joseph who fall under a low poverty level and need a little more assistance to get by.
"I do believe that our services could help a lot of those people who fall under that poverty level, and also not just serve them and give them loans, but also give them financial education so they can grow out of that," she said.
In 2025, 97% of Holy Rosary loans went to low-income and underserved borrowers.
The Luncheon included speakers from people who are members of the credit union. Rick Woodley said Holy Rosary Credit Union made the banking process for him easier.
"I had projects around my house, and I went down figuring it was going to be a bunch of paperwork," he said. "One of the employees explained to me the online process and made sure that I understood that there were key things in the process to fill out, so there would be no delays. I filled it out, and I got the money to do my project within a few short days .”
Woodley said he considers Holy Rosary Credit Union to be a positive part of the St. Joseph community.
"They helped a lot of people. They helped me individually, just being able to get my project done, and not put the stress on my family They’re a good fit for the community," he said.
Overall, Garcia said what really sets Holy Rosary Credit Union apart is their mission to provide economic opportunities.
