Gas prices climb past $4 nationwide as Iran conflict continues

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Gas prices in the U.S. continues to increased as the conflict in Iran proceeds.

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas in the U.S. is $4.48. In Missouri, drivers are paying just over $4 per gallon on average, while prices in St. Joseph are around $4.29 per gallon.

St. Joseph resident, Chris Weigel said the rising gas prices are hard to believe.

"A lot of people can’t afford these gas prices, and I think a lot of people will think twice about family vacations and airline tickets," she said. It just affects everyone across the board."

St. Joseph resident, Andre Edwards shared the same sentiment.

“I just noticed when you pointed out to me that gas prices hit $4.29. Last time I looked at it," said edwards. "It was $3.86 that’s how much I don’t pay attention but I don't think people going like this at all."

Back in March, KQ2 spoke with AAA about tips on how to save on fuel. One tip that was given is to shop around.

St. Joseph resident, John Durkin said he is going to shop around for gas.

"I always look for you know discounts from the grocery stores and stuff like that," he said. "Wherever I can."

Jacquie Evans, who traveled from Arizona, said her top priority while on the road is finding the lowest gas prices.

"Usually you're looking for the cleanest bathrooms. Now it’s the gas prices," she said.

Back in 2022, the highest record average price in gas was $4.68.
