Benton senior set for Class 1 state tennis semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KQTV) -- A Benton High School senior will play in the Class 1 state tennis semifinals on Friday.

Cardinals' Ridge Stagner won his first round match on Thursday against Forsyth's Ryan Saffle — 6-1, 6-1— and defeated Marshall's Jase Knott — 6-1, 6-1 — in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, too.

Stagner will play Springfield Catholic's William Hein on Friday morning in the state semifinals.

Stagner is the top-seed in the Class 1 state singles tournament.

Maryville's Kyler Skidmore and William Sheil won their first-round and quarterfinal-round matches on Thursday to advance to the Class 1 doubles semifinals on Friday.

The Spoofhouds duo defeated Forsyth's Kaden Mingus and Hudson Russell in the first round — 6-0, 6-2. In their quarterfinal-round match, the Maryville team won — 6-4, 6-2 — against Clayton's Ruben Haroutounian and Cole Beard.

The Savannah Savages had a doubles team make it to state. Savannah's Aidan Davies and Tyler Foster went 1-2 in the state tournament. The Savages lost their first-round matchup, but bounced back in the consolation round. The Savannah duo's season came to an end in the consolation quarterfinals.
