Local High School Band Heads to Disney World Parade Performance
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- The Central High School band is heading to Florida for a performance at Disney World.
They will perform on Tuesday night in the parade at Magic Kingdom. Central seniors Sofia Rodriguez Savage and Joe Garcia are excited to perform at Walt Disney World.
"This is just a new experience that we've never really done anything like this before," Savage said. "Especially since were going so far away, it's just completely new to us."
"We told from like sixth grade that we get to go to Disney sometime in our high school career. It's something we've always looked forward to," Garcia said.
Savage is looking forward to making memories at Disney World.
"We been in band for the past 3 years. Every year we have this tradition were seniors share stories and most of all the stories that seniors share are from Disney," she said.
Garcia is looking forward to traveling to Disney with his classmates and friends.
"Since we're like the top of our class now we all have each other and that's really exciting," he said.
Savage loves Central and is excited to represent the school at Disney.
"Central has just become a family to us. Especially the band, it's just so easy to make friends," she said. "Just representing our school and showing that even if we're from such far away. In the Midwest, we love it."
Garcia and band is proud of the opportunity and ready to perform.
"Disney is just a attraction where a lot people come to. We're ready to represent," he said.
Central High School director of bands, Lynnea Wootten said this is the highlight of every 4 years for Central's band.
"It's something we've been planning actively for the last couple years, so this that part all of the hard work is paying off. We get to go perform for everyone at Disney and have a super fun time," she said.
Central's band has spent the past several weeks preparing in a variety of ways for the performance.
"We've been marching around the block when we can. Practicing the music inside. Strategically for me this has almost been 2 years in the making," she said. "Working with our tour company, working with our band boosters and working with all the parents making sure that all of our details are iron out."
Wootten is looking forward to see all of her students experience Disney for the first time.
"Some of these kids would have otherwise never gotten to go and to get to see how much fun they have with their friends in the happiest place on earth is super special as a teacher," she said.
Overall, Wootten said performing in the Disney parade is a special opportunity the Central band does not take for granted.
