KQ2

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The National Weather Service and the St. Joseph Health Department have shared safety tips to help residents stay prepared as the region can expect severe weather Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, northern Missouri has the potential for thunderstorms starting Wednesday and possibly lasting the rest of the week.

Hazardous weather to watch for is: strong to severe thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, large hail, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding.

To stay safe during the storms, make sure to have a storm-ready kit, a charged phone and a flashlight.

Residents located in a flood-prone area, or in the event of a tornado, are urged to have a safe back-up location prepared.
