1 killed in Holt County agriculture plane crash

HOLT COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- One man was killed in an agricultural plane crash Monday night in Holt County, Missouri.

According to a news release from Holt County Sheriff Tiger Parsons, 23-year-old Cael David Schmitz was killed in the plane crash.

In the release, Parsons said law enforcement received a call around 9 pm Monday night about an agricultural plane going down east of Forbes, Missouri, in rural Holt County.

Parsons added that first responders and volunteers searched for six hours Monday night into Tuesday morning for a yellow Air Tractor, but couldn't locate it.

The search resumed after sunrise Tuesday. Parsons said the downed plane was located in a wooded area.

The release noted that Schmitz was found dead in the cockpit.

The plane is owned by Kurtz Rural Aviation.

Parsons said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Holt County Sheriff's and Coroner's Office is investigating Schmitz's death.
