City of Maryville under boil advisory following water main break

File

MARYVILLE, Mo. (KQTV) -- The City of Maryville has issued a boil advisory for water customers in the northwest portion of the city following a water main break at West 16th Street and Country Club/Icon Road.

The break caused a temporary loss of water pressure in the affected area.

According to city officials, a boil advisory is a precautionary measure issued after a loss of water pressure.

While there is no evidence of contamination, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources recommends boiling water until testing confirms it is safe.

This differs from a boil order, which is issued when contamination is known or confirmed.

During the advisory, residents are asked to boil tap water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, preparing food or infant formula, and washing fruits and vegetables.

Water may continue to be used for bathing, showering, laundry, and other household purposes.

City crews have isolated the leak and will begin permanent repairs.

Once repairs are complete, water samples will be collected for laboratory testing.

The advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms the water is safe.

Affected customers will be notified immediately once the advisory has been lifted.
