Get to know: Matt Levine, Democratic Primary Candidate for U.S. Representative District 6

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Matt Levine is a proud teacher, former accountant, lead transportation officer at Kansas City International Airport, and wants to be the next United States Representative for Missouri’s 6th District.

Key issues of Levine's platform include fair and nondiscriminatory education, quality and accessible healthcare for all, and supporting agricultural and rural communities.

"We need our citizens here that can believe in the representative that is supposed to be fighting for them, for them," Levine shared. "And so when we had this representative for 20-plus years, not answering phone calls, not holding town halls, I'm just the complete opposite."

Levine said he plans to make regular appearances if he wins the general election.

"I am running because I believe government should work for ordinary people, not just the wealthy and well-connected. So I will be an accessible, transparent representative who listens, shows up, and fights every day for every community across northern Missouri."

Levine says he'd like to focus on veterans and their families, equality for all people and groups, and protecting Second Amendment rights while also adopting practices to protect individuals at risk of gun violence.

Levine feels his age and multitude of experience make him fit to lead.

"Being 37, I'm still young compared to other representatives of old, but I also have so much educational experience that I can use for what we truly need with our economy failing us right now."

During the Aug. 4 Primary, Levine will face Josh Smead and Scot Pondelick for the Democratic spot in the General Election later this year. For more information on Levine, click here.
