Get to know: Paul Gatewood, Republican Primary Candidate for Missouri Representative District 10
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Meet Paul Gatewood, a proud veteran of the Marine Corps, longtime member of the St. Joseph Police Department and now hopes to be the next Missouri House representative from District 10.
Gatewood's longtime commitment to St. Joseph is what fuels his passion to run for office and so much more.
"At 17 years old, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution and defend it, ok. I'm gonna continue to do that. I did it when I was on the police force," Gatewood stated. "I've done it all my life; that's my job, um, upholding our Constitution, the 2nd Amendment. I'm a big proponent of the 2nd Amendment."
That he is, and what he plans to fight for if he makes it to Jefferson City. Along with doing what he can to continuously improve St. Joseph and make it a great place to live, according to Gatewood.
"I don't think we offer the quality of jobs I would like (and we need to work on) affordable housing. So I'd like to try to make things better around Saint Joe," Gatewood shared. "I love Saint Joe. I spent four years in the Marine Corps, came back, of course, where mom was in Saint Joe, and joined the police department (where I have been) for the last 36 years."
Along with fighting for St. Joseph, he wants to protect the rights of blue-collar families. One of the longtime volunteers who also serves as a chairman of the Joint Veterans Committee, board member of the St. Joseph Museums, and so much more has gotten to know.
"I don't consider myself a politician. I'm a public servant. I've done it all my life, and I wanna continue to do it. I don't plan on- obviously, I'm 58 years old. I'm not gonna do this forever," Gatewood said. "I wanna go in and make a difference, um, and get out and, and let somebody else come in. So, um, I, I would really encourage people to get out."
