U.S. Senator Josh Hawley introduces ‘No Bonuses for Bad Service Act’

WASHINGTON D.C. (KQTV) -- U.S. Senator Josh Hawley has recently introduced legislation that would ban bonuses for Postal Service leadership until mail is delivered on time.

The "No Bonuses for Bad Service Act" would prohibit United States Postal Service leadership from receiving bonuses or compensation until mail service and deliveries meet timely standards.

Hawley says USPS has posted financial losses in recent years, including $25 billion over the last three fiscal years, yet has raised postage rates for households and businesses while missing deadlines.

He cited an incident in St. Louis, where a massive pile of undelivered mail was discovered in a vacant lot without explanation.

Upon speaking with a federal watchdog, he says that Missouri ranks the worst in the nation for postal deliveries.

"What I hope it will accomplish is getting the mail delivered in the state of Missouri, because right now, it's going undelivered all over the state," Hawley said. "I sat down with the federal watchdog who oversees the post office just the other day. She told me that no state has worse problems in postal delivery than the state of Missouri. It is absolutely astounding."

"The Postmaster General is doing nothing about it," Hawley continued. "He is, in fact, taking bonuses for himself while the mail goes undelivered in Missouri. My bill would prohibit that. It would say no bonuses for the Postmaster General or any executives until the mail gets delivered. In the state of Missouri, it's the least they can do. It's their job, and they need to start doing it."

Hawley says the bill already has bipartisan support in the Senate and hopes it will be voted on soon.
