Spire pipeline work to close portions of Frederick Avenue next month

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Crews will shut down portions of Frederick Avenue next month due to Spire replacing pipelines in the city.

Spire crews will conduct work along Frederick Avenue between 22nd Street and Fairleigh Terrace. The impacted intersections include Frederick Avenue at Fairleigh Terrace, North 26th Street, North 25th Street, North 24th Street and North 22nd Street.

Spire will be replacing an old steel pipe that has been in the ground for decades with a new plastic pipe. Over time, unprotected steel pipes can corrode, leading to problems with gas-powered appliances.

This work is apart of Spire's ongoing efforts to improve and upgrade infrastructure in St. Joseph.

"We're upgrading a lot of that infrastructure so that our customers have the best experience, and to mitigate any potential issues that could be occurring," Spire, field operations supervisor Joshua Stephens said.

Spire says the road will be open but there will be times when crews have to close part of the road down.

"It will be a very short work period of time," Stephens said. "We'll be sure that Fredrick is open enough for traffic to go through in the long term."

Traffic control measures, including detour signs, will be in place to minimize disruptions and delays.

The work is scheduled to begin Sept. 8 and is expected to last about four weeks.

The completion date is tentative and subject to change.
