MSHP investigating fatal motorcycle crash in Worth County

WORTH COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A four-vehicle motorcycle collision on Missouri Highway 46 near Route F resulted in one fatality and one injury on the afternoon of August 29, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m., about three miles east of Sheridan, when a 2017 Harley-Davidson slowed to make a left-hand turn onto Route F.

A following 2025 Harley-Davidson, operated by a 44-year-old male from Winterset, Iowa, failed to observe the slowing vehicle, swerved left, and struck it.

The impact caused the first motorcycle to overturn and eject its driver.

A third motorcycle, a 2021 Harley-Davidson driven by a 47-year-old male from Bedford, Iowa, subsequently struck the overturned vehicle and also ejected its rider.

A fourth motorcycle then drove over the already-ejected driver of the first vehicle while attempting to avoid the wreckage.

The driver of the first motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene at 2:59 p.m. by Dr. Crystal Macaluso.

The driver of the third motorcycle sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville.

The operators of the second and fourth motorcycles were uninjured.

None of the four riders were wearing safety devices.

Next of kin have been notified for the deceased driver.

Assisting agencies included the Worth County Sheriff’s Department, Worth County EMS, Sheridan Fire, and Grant City Fire.

The investigation is being conducted by Sergeant B.E. Maudlin and MCIU Sergeant J.M. Toal.
