Law enforcement rescues man stranded on Missouri River Friday

ELWOOD, Ks. (KQTV) -- The Elwood Police Department responded to a call that a person on a fishing boat was stranded on the Missouri River, according to a press release by the City of Elwood, Ks.

The man told first responders that he was stranded on the water and his boat running out of fuel. The boat started floating down the river, while the Missouri River was under a flood warning.

According to Elwood Police Department Chief Brandon Whetstine, St. Joseph Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Elwood Fire Department, Wathena Police Department and Doniphan County Emergency Management were called due to the conditions of the river.

The St. Joseph Fire Department Water Rescue team went out on a rescue boat and located the man. They were able to tow the boat toward a boat ramp by the St. Jo Frontier Casino.

The man recovered was safe and reported with no injuries.
