SJCS hosts basketball games in new space

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- St. Joseph Christian School has opened its new gym and commons area a week before its scheduled opening.

The Pre-K-12 school celebrated by holding its first home games in the new space against Nodaway Valley Tuesday Night.

The property was originally scheduled to be open to the public during next weeks Districts basketball games.

"Everybody is just like 'Wow'," St. Joseph Christian Athletic Director Nicki Carlson said. "Even our Nodaway Valley fans have been super complimentary and excited to be here."

Even though the Lions were playing in a new space, the end goal was still the same for both teams.

"We talk a lot about playing with pride in this school, and I hope that's what everyone who was watching felt," Girls' Head Basketball Coach Kerstyn Banks said. "I hope that's what our girls felt. We just hope that we're prideful playing for St. Joe Christian."

The varsity girls won their game with a score of 57-44, while the boys lost 53-33 to Nodaway Valley.
