SJSD now requires application for free & reduced meal benefits

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Families in the St. Joseph School District are now required to complete a Free & Reduced Meals Application to receive benefits.

In previous years, SJSD schools participated in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which allowed all students to receive meals at no cost, without an application.

Families that qualify are income-eligible households, foster children, homeless students, runaway youth or migrant students, households receiving SNAP, FDPIR or TANF benefits.

Full-pay meal prices will increase by 10 cents for the 2026-27 school year.

New prices will be $1.45 for breakfast, $2.90 for elementary lunch, $3.10 for middle and high school lunch and $3.60 for adult meals.

The applications opened July 1. Families can apply online through SchoolCafe or submit a paper copy.
