Bartlett Center to stay open past Thursday as YMCA transition set for later this month

Jake Walker | KQ2

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Bartlett Center board will keep the center open past Thursday.

In a Facebook post, board member Tama Wagner said the Bartlett Center 501(c)(3) will operate the center for the next few weeks as the board works on the transition to the YMCA.

Wagner wrote that “assuming no significant issues are identified during the upcoming follow-up inspections, the transition to the YMCA is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23.”

Last week, board leaders said child care services would pause Thursday, Oct. 8. That plan has changed.

Over the weekend, volunteers cleaned, painted, made repairs and worked through inspection requirements to prepare the facility for reinspection.

Wagner said others have given financial support to help cover payroll and keep staff.

Another volunteer work weekend is planned for this weekend. Volunteers will be at the facility from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11.
