ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A longtime Missouri Western State University professor received a teaching award at the annual Council on Public Higher Education (COPHE) Excellence in Teaching Luncheon.

The luncheon in Jefferson City on April 7 honored Lane DesAutels, associate professor of philosophy at MoWest. He has taught at the college for ten years and oversees the Bachelor of General Studies/Science and Technology programs.

Each year, COPHE awards a member who helps Missouri students stay motivated.

MoWest President Elizabeth Kennedy is excited to welcome Dr. DesAutels.

"His courses make the very foundation of the university experience, bridging the humanities with the applied sciences. Students appreciate the welcoming discussion environment he cultivates, which creates a balanced space for multiple viewpoints. This is especially important in his classes because they explore timely and sometimes contentious issues.”
