Dead body found in vehicle near Mitchell Park Plaza Sunday night

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Police Department is asking the public to avoid the area of 1300 South 11th Street near Mitchell Park Plaza as they investigate a dead body found in a vehicle in the area.

Authorities responded to the area around 9:00 pm on Sunday, April 19.

According to a KQ2 reporter on the scene, there are about 5 cop cars in the area, with police tape cordoning off a major area. The front entrance of Mitchell Park Plaza is also unavailable during this time.

Captain Richard McGregory with SJPD said the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, and there is no cause of death identified at this time.
