Benton High School baseball wins the Class 4 District 16 Championship

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Benton Cardinals win their second district title in the last three years after defeating the reigning Class Four State Champion Chillicothe Hornets, 6-2.

Benton junior Zaidyn Woodward got the start on the mound for the Cardinals. In his five innings pitched, he allowed five hits for two runs and threw three strikeouts. While at the plate, Benton received contributions from all over the team. They finished the game with 10 hits, six RBI and six runs.

The Cardinals now improve to 23-13 on the season, while Chillicothe ends their season at 20-10.

Benton will now face Excelsior Springs in the Class Four State Quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 26 at MoWest.
